How can
I reduce my water usage?
A. Kitchen
1.
Scrape
rather than rinse dishes prior to placing them into the dishwasher.
2.
When
washing dishes by hand, do not leave the faucet running. Instead, fill
the sink with soapy water and then clean the dishes in the sink basin.
3.
Minimize
the use of the kitchen sink disposal. Disposals require water to operate
with and can also lead to septic maintenance problems.
4.
Keep
drinking water in the refrigerator rather than running the tap until
cool. A running faucet can use about 2 gallons of water per minute.
5.
Use
the smallest amount of water necessary in pans to cook.
B. Bathroom
1.
Never
use the toilet as a waste basket.
2.
Lessening
shower time by 5 minutes will save at least 16 gallons a day.
3.
Turn
off water while brushing teeth. Letting the tap run while brushing teeth
wastes 10 gallons of water, while rinsing briefly only uses approximately
one half gallon of water.
4.
Rinse
your razor in the sink. Instead of running the faucet, fill the sink with
a few inches of water and then rinse the razor in the sink.
5.
Alert
maintenance if any leak is found. One drip over a course of a week can
add up to 48 gallons of wasted water.
